Finding our product-market fit
What we learned from our first customer interviews
For the past couple of months, we’ve been working on nailing our product-market fit, just like these two little kids. Towards that end, we’ve been heads down doing customer research with a focus on interviews with coaches and their clients. We have conducted 17 in-depth interviews so far. Thank you to all the coaches and coachees who spent their valuable time with us. 💚
What did we learn?
Coaches make ideal interview participants
The very first insight we had was that, perhaps unsurprisingly, coaches make for ideal customer interview participants. They were highly analytical, and they provided thoughtful, meaningful, and patient responses to our questions.
This made our job of interviewing and understanding their work, process, and struggles so much easier!
Coaches care deeply about their clients
The coaches we interviewed are always looking for ways to deepen their coaching relationships. They are also looking for ways to scale up their coaching practices to help many more people in their growth journeys.
Overwhelmingly, coaches were supportive of what we are trying to do with Medoo. They were excited at the prospect of a fully purpose-built tool they could use in their day to day.
Coaches curate a personalised journey for their clients
Many coaches stressed the importance of taking a personalised approach to coaching in helping to achieve the desired outcomes for each client.
This personalised approach is a key part of why coaching is so great at germinating and supporting individual growth.
Coaches encourage agency for their clients
Closely related to a personalised approach is the concept of agency on the part of the client. Coaches strive to create this sense of agency in their clients across several areas. Firstly, building trust with clients. Then, giving clients the space to vocalise their thoughts without fear of judgement. And lastly, encouraging clients to come up with their own solutions and tactics to tackle challenges.
…and they were keen to try Medoo!
The vast majority of coaches we spoke to are excited to test drive Medoo as soon as possible. There is a surprising lack of purpose-built tooling for coaching, and we would like to change that.
We can’t wait to put the first version of Medoo into coaches hands!
What this means for Medoo
Collectively, these insights create an interesting design and user experience challenge for Medoo, which we are finding very exciting to tackle.
